Return to nature – Outdoor pedagogy in science teaching
Description
The workshop is based on practical work in the school forest.
Workshop participants will be provided with theoretical and practical insight into the elaborated teaching units for biology, chemistry, and geography.
Examples of teaching units that deal with real problems are elaborated in three parts. The first part is designed with the application of input activities based on outdoor pedagogy, the central part in which the problem is researched and data collected, and the final part in which the solution to the problem is evaluated.
Based on the source of the literature and the lessons presented that deal with real problems, the participants will create their teaching units and construct a student experiment based on outdoor pedagogy in school forest.
Goals
The main goals of this course are to:
- present three biology, three chemistry, and three geography teaching units in school forest that are elaborated on solving real problems (includes worksheets, input activities, student evaluation)
- apply activities based on outdoor pedagogy
- create new teaching units based on outdoor pedagogy.
Learning outcomes
The course will help the participants to:
- differentiate the teaching process with the help of outdoor pedagogy
- use new teaching methods to achieve greater student motivation
- create an assignment and questions based on Bloom’s taxonomy and Gardner’s intelligences
- construct research or experiments based on outdoor pedagogy in school forest (application of teaching methods for a nearby park, meadow or forest).
